From public App Store data (ratings, reviews, release dates) and from a provider of revenue and download estimates. They are estimates: use the score to compare markets and decide what to dig into, not as a forecast.

Why would a well-known app look small?

Estimates only count sales made through the App Store. Apps that earn money elsewhere (ads, web subscriptions, physical services) are underestimated.

Is there an Android version?

Not yet. Nich runs on iPhone and analyzes App Store apps.
